Race day!

Image
This morning, I watched some of the race walk after breakfast.  Not many people in it.  I think only 6 women finished and 12 men.  It was back and forth in 500m segments for a half marathon. I didn't do any pictures yet today, but we have stuck to Meghan's schedule of what needs to happen when, we talked over race strategies, and did some filming for Meghan's instagram.  We have to wait until after the meet to share those though. In 40 minutes, we'll head to the track.  I'll do more here later with pictures and things. She did great!  Went out hard, 56.80 and kept her position on the last lap to stay in second.  The winner, Daily Cooper, ran a 2 second PB to win in 1:56.10.  Meghan ran her season best of 1:58.93.  In two weeks, she will run sub 1:58 in LA.   She made some fans that wanted pictures with her and her bib numbers.  She had 5 bib numbers, so she could sign them and give them away.  The two girls here were...

Pre race

Today started with a 15 mile run.  To avoid getting lost and having too many stop lights along the way.  So, I did 32 laps around the football stadium.  It wasn't as bad as it sounds.  I had a guy I lapped a few times that was cheering me on as I went.  He said "Good job my friend!" when he finished and I passed by one more time.  There was also a running group that had a couple guys that would try to run with me when I would go by.  We had some good laughs and I tried to encourage them in English and Spanish.  That's difficult when I only know a few words in Spanish though.  Later on, at the track, I met him again.  He was with Carmen's mum (Meghan's teammate).  So, we got to visit for a little while. Same cameras we use at BYU.  The meet has been on time so far. The elevators here are great!  The door close button actually closes the door.  If you tap on the wrong floor, you can tap again and it cancels it. ...

Which uniform?

Image
Meghan had to choose which uniform to go with.  She chose this one: My credential arrived.  I'm not sure how official it looks, but it's getting me in everywhere. Shopping has been fun.  The cart is not very easy though. They do have good ice cream in Columbia though.

Settled in

We met Carman and Janeth Alder (Carmen is on the BYU team and Janeth was one of my teammates).  They did manicures, but I decided not to when I saw they were 29,000 Columbian pesos. We had fun shopping and found good food.  The grapes were really good and the Hunter bar was a good choice if you like yummy things. The opening ceremonies were a lot of speeches and a dance.  The Canadian flag blew off it's rod, but they got it back on.  We're glad we went.

Travel Day

Good start to the day at 4am!  We made it fine to the airport thanks for James.   After landing in Houston for a 5.5 hour layover, we left the airport to a Marriott and asked if we could use the fitness center.  They told us no, so we waited outside of it until someone walked in and we followed them!  I got my 10 miles in.  Meghan got her 5 plus some cross training.  Then, we tried not to be too smelly for the Houston to Medellin flight.  The disply doesn't show it well, but my run was through Auckland New Zealand. We had some good lunch in the airport, but my orange was hard to peel, so I was missing Adrienne who does all our orange peeling. On the way to the terminal, Meghan and I raced down opposite moving stairs.  That is a photo of me being ahead! The airline food was not appealing.  Fortunately, I had a sandwich and Meghan had a bowl.  We didn't realize they would feed us on the flight. Passport control took 2.5 hours, then th...
